Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), now called Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) is a hormonal condition in women that affects how the ovaries function. It often involves:

  • Irregular or missed periods
  • Elevated androgens (male hormones)
  • Acne/oily skin, excess hair growth, or thinning hair
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • Insulin resistance and fertility challenges
  • Dark or thick skin patches on the back of the neck, in the armpits, and under the breasts

PCOS/PMOS is also associated with metabolic disorders, like type 2 diabetes, and can overlap with other conditions like endometriosis—making evaluation so important.
